In thee Spring of 1997, The Umpteens, a little known but much-beloved rock group from Boston, broke up mid-performance at a local University.
That summer, their front man recorded a collection of songs he'd written over the previous four years. These recordings became Maniac, Don Lennon's cult-classic debut album.
Since then Lennon has gone on to release four more quietly influential full-length records, the loosely autobiographical self-titled sophomore release; the culture critiquing Downtown; his genre-defining fourth cd, Routine; and his latest effort, Radical.
2006 saw the release of a "best-of" collection in Australia, aptly titled Ich Heisse Don, featuring selections from his first four albums.
Lennon continues to write songs and perform them in front of (mostly indifferent, sometimes hostile, occasionally enthusiastic) audiences. He is extremely appreciative of his small, eclectic fan base.
